Our healthcare system is not broken. It is functioning exactly as intended.
My husband has good insurance for our area through his work, and it is $180 a month to have a subscription to service, $10k to be able to actually use it, a handful of acceptable doctors.
Where you are working so drastically affects your options for healthcare. The employers know it. They know you don't have a choice. They use this to get private and personal health information to try and make it manageable. "Wellness programs" in the shape of obsessive attention paid to weight and step counts. These ostracized sick and injured people. Someone in a wheelchair isn't going to be able to hit 10k steps per day to be able to earn the $50 per month savings on the cost of health insurance.
If you are uninsured, like I was when my gallbladder failed, it is difficult to even get taken seriously at an ER. I got sent home from one with a diagnosis of acid reflux, and another had me wait almost 7 hours to see any kind of doctor. They almost sent me home until they did an ultrasound and found out how bad I was.
That was $30k.
Now if you have a chronic health issues it is worse. Migraine medication that works is $1k minimum a month for me. My insurance will not cover it.
Not to mention that to get a diagnosis took over 3 years because I couldn't afford to get seen by doctors and also had trouble getting taken seriously.
No one should look at our model and like it. The executive boards of the insurance companies and their families should be publicly shamed, and ostracized. Their wealth and possessions taken from them. This is the only way to rectify problems.
Not to me too. That although student loans were paused during COVID healthcare bills were not. People that got COVID because they had to be at work or they would lose their jobs (and insurance) were paying out of pocket for the most insane things.
America is a healthcare dystopia and if you allow our values to infest your working programs it will not improve. Nurses are still underpaid, doctors are still chained to a ridiculous set of standards for diagnosis and treatment. Nothing is better here.
